For decades, Basse’s Taste of Country in Richfield has been a place where families come together to make memories and enjoy what Wisconsin communities like Richfield have to offer. From apple and strawberry picking to pumpkin patches, school field trips, and family gatherings, Basse’s farm is a vital part of our community.

Now that future is at risk, and we need your help! The Village of Richfield is considering revoking Basse’s Conditional Use Permit after the family transferred the property into a family-owned LLC because of long term succession and estate planning.

The Village’s actions will shut down Basse’s Taste of Country for good without your help!

Revoking the permit when there is NO new owner could shut down a long-standing, lawful family farm and take away a cherished part of our community.

Dear Richfield Village Board Members,

We are writing as neighbors, customers, and longtime supporters of Basse’s Taste of Country in the Village of Richfield. I was shocked to learn that the Village of Richfield is considering revoking the Basse’s Conditional Use Permit. An estate and succession planning change should not put the Basse’s farm business in jeopardy.

For decades, Basse’s has been more than just a farm, it’s a place where the community gathers, kids take school field trips, and family traditions are made right in our community. Basse’s farm creates jobs, draws visitors to the area, and provides vital revenue to our community.

The Village of Richfield should not shut down a long-standing, lawful, family-owned farm that serves our community. Keep the Basse’s conditional use permit in place.  We all pride ourselves on being a community that supports small businesses, family farms, and common-sense governance. Actions like this send the opposite message, and I urge the board to immediately reconsider.

We respectfully ask the board to keep Basse’s existing conditional use permit in place, and allow the farm to continue operating just as it always has, with the opportunities to grow, serve, and be a valued part of the community as it has, and into the distant future.
